A former employer asked us to revitalize his yard so that it was more functional. At the time, the yard had small, segmented areas for gardens, paved spaces and a lawn. In addition, the yard and paved areas were uneven, which added to the fractured look of the space. The house is in Manifold Heights, which has challenging access. We were able to overcome this by accessing the yard from the rear.

To produce the cohesive, functional space that the client wanted, we started by removing the existing vegetation and leveling the surfaces. Before installing tall fescue grass in the open yard space, an irrigation system was installed. This allows for easier yard maintenance. We also removed the paved areas, which previously had multiple types of pavers. These were replaced with a single type of red brick pavers at one level. By using one material, the space has a larger and more cohesive feel. The existing vegetable garden was updated for enhanced usability as well. In addition, we further beautified the year by concealing the carpark space with a spotted gum screen.
