These clients came to us as a recommendation from some of their friends we had completed work for previously. They had a plan and a general idea of what they wanted, including some concepts and photos they wanted to show us. We met them on-site, completed a walkthrough and went through our whole consultation and design process with them every step of the way. The clients were great to work with, open-minded and enabled our job to be creative and offer solutions easier for them to make better decisions. Having this consultation process with them made our job of delivering this project so much easier, and the results are clear.
The scope of the front yard was to work around their feature tree choice and ease of access to the front door. Being a large nature strip and using turf, we kept it clean and used mostly turf in the front yard. Having a healthy, clean and green lawn well maintained will look great. We’ve extended the concrete driveway into the porch; this created a more expansive driveway and continued to wrap the concrete paths around the entire house for practicality and ease of access. We’ve added the feature concrete steppers to the front yard as an additional entry point to the front door. Once plants establish around this area, they will highlight the concrete steppers and the entryway.
The clients always planned to have a decked alfresco area; the builders retaining wall looked to be an issue for what they initially thought. We could use this wall to our advantage, creating full-width grand steps onto the sizeable turfed backyard area. This turfed backyard area was also a need as these clients have a young family and wanted to create a playspace. We also added a soft fall area for a future play area. Off the deck, we also created a secondary entertainers zone, again incorporating the existing retaining by adding a feature spotted gum seat wrapped around the paved area. This area now leads into and looks onto a calming, although small leafy garden area. Feature lighting added to screens, under bench seats and along the grand steps means this area is beautiful during the day and at night; just look at the videos below to see for yourself. Down the left-hand side, which was the non-spacious side, we’ve created veggie gardens with climbing wire for practical use; there is also plenty of space down here for additional planter boxes or as a working area.
